Scott Porter Reportedly Cast in New Movie

Scott Porter PicThe official cast of Warner Brothers' live-action Justice League of America movie is expected to be unveiled next week, but new reports claim several actors have already been cast in the George Miller-directed project.

Previously reported contenders Adam Brody (The O.C.), Common (American Gangster), Teresa Palmer (Wolf Creek) and Scott Porter (Friday Night Lights) have won roles in the film, several sources report.

Adam Brody is said to be playing Wally West, a.k.a. The Flash, opposite Common as John Stewart, the Green Lantern.

Palmer is not going to play Wonder Woman but rather one of the film's villains, Talia Al Ghul.

AICN claims Scott Porter might be playing Superman, but IESB counters with "our sources tell us he was up for the role of The Flash and obviously Adam Brody won out, we've heard nothing about him being cast as Superman."

Fall and Rise: An Interview with Scott Porter

Scott Porter portrays the former star quarterback of the Dillon Panthers on the hit show Friday Night Lights. Scott Porter recently spoke to our friends at BuddyTV about what it's like to play the partially paralyzed star ...

Question: So first, why don't you start by describing your character?
Scott Porter: Jason Street was the local hero. He was a good quarterback. A good student. He came from a great family. He was gonna go to college at Notre Dame and eventually become pro. Then tragedy struck at the end of the pilot and he broke his neck and is now in a wheelchair. In the first season, he kind of deals with everybody coming to grips with his injury before he deals with it himself. He's a strong kid. He's been through more than any kid I know and he always comes out with his head up high. At the end of last season, he went back to the team as a coach and in the first episodes of this season you kind of see that deteriorate, and he starts to deal with the issue of whether or not he wants to walk again, and if it's even possible.

Question: Right. He's going through a lot of really big stuff like in the last episode ("Backfire") when he decided to go to Mexico ...
Scott Porter: He heard about stem cell research. You know, there are these surgeries where they actually inject stem-cells of other animals or human embryos into your back to hopefully get it to re-attach to your spine and heal you. And he kind of sees that as maybe a pipe dream. So he decides to quit the team and do this trip. And Tim Riggins, his loyal, irresponsible friend Riggins, decides he wants to come along for the ride and Jason can't really say no.

Question: Do you identify with your character?
Scott Porter: I do, in different ways than I think people expect. First of all, you don't see Jason's parents as much as I would like you to. That being said, he did come from a very strong family and so did I. I have an amazing family. And to come from there and to kind of have that background really played into who Jason Street was. I'd like to say I'm as strong-willed as Jason, but he's been through so much ... he's definitely head and shoulders above me.

Question: Is there any chance that Jason and Lyla Garrity are going to get back together? Or will there be a new love interest?
Scott Porter: I think Jason and Lyla have a love for each other that extends beyond just a relationship. I think they have a really true affection for each other and right now it's just a friendship. I don't know if we'll see them back together. There's always that opportunity. They're always going to be there for each other. But you will see Jason kind of moving on later in the season.

Scott Porter Attends Nebraska-Texas A&M Game

Scott Porter at Nebraska GameIt wasn't the lights of Friday night, but the sun of Saturday afternoon.

Scott Porter, who plays former quarterback Jason Street on the NBC football drama Friday Night Lights, wore a Maurice Purify jersey to last Saturday's Nebraska game against Texas A&M.

The young actor took a break from his Friday Night Lights filming schedule to take in agame with his family.

"I'm going to make it a yearly journey," Scott Porter said.

Scott Porter managed to squeeze in the weekend match while filming the 12th episode of 22 installments for Friday Night Lights' second season.

The first and last time he had the chance to watch a Nebraska game was last year, when the Huskers went up against Missouri.

The 28-year-old Porter was born in Omaha and has been a Nebraska fan since his childhood. He says he became a fan of the Huskers' wide receiver, Maurice Purify, after the Texas-Nebraska game last year, which he saw in a bar in Austin. Porter remembers how Purify broke away for a long TD in that game.

Porter himself was a wide receiver in high school, so playing an athlete on Friday Night Lights comes quite naturally to him.

Friday Night Lights continues to suffer tough ratings, even as stars like Porter maintain their pride for it, while recognizing its limitations.

"I don't think it's a show that will follow kids to college," he said. "I don't think it's a [Beverly Hills] 90210. We're just a genuine, honest show. It's about the town of Dillon, and I think once people leave Dillon, you're not going to follow them for an extended length of time."

Still, for now, Scott Porter is ready to milk the experience of starring on Friday Night Lights for all it's worth.

"I'll take it as long as I can get it," Porter said of portraying 17-year old Jason Street on the program. "As long as I can play young, I will."

Scott Porter: A True Marvel

At the forefront of Friday Night Lights since its 2006 debut is talented actor Scott Porter, whose nuanced portrayal of fallen quarterback Jason Street earned him overwhelming praise and adoration in Season One.

Women love him and men want to be him. The man can sing, beat box and dance professionally. And, oh yeah, he's also a huge comic book fan!

With the new season underway and all eyes on Friday Night Lights in its new Friday night time slot, Porter's is busy... but never too busy for comics!

Marvel at Scott Porter

"Our shoot schedule on Friday Night Lights is a lot more hectic then your regular program," Scott Porter told Marvel.Com. "We move at a pace that few other series can, simply because we have three handheld cameras, at least, for every shot. No rehearsals, no marks, a ton of improv. Most shows are allowed 8-10 days to shoot an episode, whereas we are given six."

"That being said, I try to get to my shop, Bee Cave Comics and Games here in Austin, every Wednesday. I pick up my books and head to Rudy's BBQ and eat and read. It's a great time to decompress. If I'm way too busy on a Wednesday, we always have weekends off, so I'll pick them up then."

You might be surprised to learn that on the set of Friday Night Lights, Scott Porter is far from the only comic book fan.

"Adrianne Palicki is a huge comic fan, her brother Eric writes cool online books. She played Kara on Smallville for one episode and is a huge Supergirl fan."

"I play a game called Heroclix and Zach Gilford (Scott's roommate and fellow Friday Night Lights star) and Minka Kelly both were pretty interested in it and they followed me to my local shop to see what it was all about."

"No one has jumped into reading, but I have gotten Adrianne Palicki to read more than just Supergirl. She's been digging Invincible... in fact I think she still has my 1st Hardcover Collection of it. I gotta get that back."

Friday Night Lights Goes South

Sprrrrrring Breeeeeeeak!!!!

Well, not really. But a Friday Night Lights film production unit was in Brownsville and popular party spot (and natural wonder) South Padre Island, Texas, last week to shoot scenes for the series, according to news reports.

Cast and crew spent a fews days filming in Cameron County parks on the Island, said assistant county parks director Joe Vega, who took in some of the action.

"We're glad they are going to feature our beautiful beaches on their show, even though (this episode) is supposed to be set in Mexico," he said.

This is for the episode in which Tim Riggins, Lyla Garrity and Jason Street decide to take a road trip south of the border. While South Padre is still in Texas, it's remote and about as close (geographically) to Mexico as one can get.

Austinite John Patterson, locations manager for the series, said his group includes more than 80 people. Three of the show's stars - the three who take the trip - came with the crew: Taylor Kitch, Scott Porter and Minka Kelly.

Texas

"Ninety-five percent of our crew are Texans," said Patterson, a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin, where the show films the majority of its footage. "It's possible we may shoot more sequences here in Texas."

Friday Night Spotlight: Scott Porter

In anticipation of Season Two of Friday Night Lights, we're taking a deeper look at each of the primary stars, most of whom you probably don't know all that much about - and should! They're awesome!

Yesterday, we profiled the amazing Connie Britton, one half of one of the most realistic TV marriages in history. Today we're profiling Scott Porter, who has garnered much praise in the dynamic role of Jason Street.

Matthew Scott Porter was born on July 14, 1979, in Omaha, Nebraska. He went to Lake Howell High School in Winter Park, Florida, where he was a standout football player and named All-Central Florida at wide receiver.

Scott Porter: Man of Many Talents

His talents extended well beyond the athletic arena, however. Porter made a living as a professional beat-boxer - a unique musical style popularized by American Idol runner-up Blake Lewis - while trying to break into acting.

After moving to New York City in 2005, Porter played Matthew in the cast of the Off-Broadway hit "Altar Boyz." He can be heard on the cast recording. He also plays the role of Colin Thompson, the more visible part of the duo that fronts the fictional band PoP! in the movie Music and Lyrics.

Scott Porter is scheduled to play Bobby in the remake of Prom Night and Rex Racer in Speed Racer (2008). Other TV credits of his include The Bedford Diaries, All My Children and As the World Turns.

On Friday Night Lights, Scott Porter has won wide acclaim for his portrayal of the star quarterback, Jason, who feels the weight of the world on his shoulders at the beginning of the first season, but then suffers a severe injury.

By the end of the year, all he wants is a life that makes some sense. We all feel for Jason and appreciate the incredible job Scott does. Can't wait for more!

Scott Porter: A Big Blake Lewis Fan

Hunky Friday Night Lights star Scott Porter admits he was a little jealous this year. Not of his co-stars' successes on the football field, but of American Idol runner-up Blake Lewis.

It's a confession that certainly comes as a surprise to some, but Porter, in fact, spent seven years as a professional beat-boxer before landing the role of Jason Street on the NBC football drama.

"He had some strong points and some weak points. I liked watching him, though. He's pretty talented," says Scott Porter of Blake Lewis' skills, which garnered him more votes than all but Jordin Sparks on Idol's sixth season.

"When I saw him perform with Doug E. Fresh, I have to tell you," Porter said, "I was a little jealous. But anything that can bring a little notoriety to beatboxing, I really enjoy."

For Scott Porter, Playing Jason Street is Both Challenging and Profound

Scott PorterPlaying paralyzed ex-quarterback Jason Street on Friday Night Lights is no easy task, but it's proven to be a life-changing experience for Scott Porter.

The 28-year-old actor has gone to great lengths in order to ensure an accurate, believable portrayal of the Dillon Panthers' fallen star.

"I definitely immersed myself in the world of quadriplegics," Porter said in an interview with the Orlando Sentinel.

"They're the most inspirational people I've ever met. They strive to become better people, not just the same people they were before."

His efforts have not been made in vain.

Many paralyzed viewers of the show have expressed their gratitude for the actor, who provides a depiction of an individual stricken with paralysis that they find both believable and inspiring.

In addition to praise from critics and fans, Scott Porter's dedication and openness to the role has also impressed his Friday Night Lights co-stars.

"He's very serious about his work, and he's very prepared when he comes to set," Kyle Chandler, who plays Coach Eric Taylor, said. "He's a very kind person. It's obvious that he had a good upbringing."

Connie Britton, who plays Chandler's on-screen wife, Tami Taylor, echoes his sentiments, saying that Porter has "done such an amazing job with his character."

Jason Street was paralyzed from the waist down after suffering a severe spinal injury in the first game of the season.

He was forced him to give up the sport he loves and undergo months of rehab. Street experienced more troubles when girlfriend Lyla Garrity (Minka Kelly) cheated on him with his best friend, Tim Riggins (Taylor Kitsch), and when he was rejected by the National Quadriplegics Rugby Team due to inexperience.

Late in the year, he finds that his calling may lie on the football field after all, as he mentors his successor at QB, Matt Saracen (Zach Gilford) as an assistant.

In the show's second season, which premieres Friday, October 5, Jason Street will have to deal with his bottled-up emotions.

"He never fully dealt with the injury and its effect on him emotionally," Porter said of his character.

"This season, all of that's going to come out. He's going to regain a little feeling in one of his hands. It's going to send him on this wild goose chase to heal himself."

Friday Night Lights executive producer Jason Katims lauds Porter's acting skills, adding that the star has the ability to avoid over-sentimentality in difficult scenes regarding paralysis.

"He did a ton of research, and it really helped in the details and nuance of what he did with the character," Katims says. "We're excited to move forward with this next arc."

Jeffrey Reiner, another producer, praised Porter for his subtlety.

"Scottie has got chops," Reiner said. "That's what blows me away about him. You look at him, and you could go, 'This is going to be a pretty boy.' But there's so much heart, substance there."
