TV Look-Alikes: Minka Kelly & Leighton Meester

Young. Beautiful. On the cusp of stardom. These descriptions fit Minka Kelly just about as well as her cheerleading outfit. But they also apply to another actress who bears a resemblance to the Friday Night Lights star.

Leighton Meester, star of the much talked-about Gossip Girl on The CW, is another young actress starting to generate buzz. She's also adorable, with a knowing half-smile and long, flowing brown hair. Much like Minka Kelly...

Two of our favorite TV look-alikes: Leighton Meester and Minka Kelly.

Leighton made her Gossip Girl debut last night, while Minka Kelly and the rest of her Friday Night Lights cast members return live Friday, October 5. These are two cuties you'll be hearing a lot from in the coming years.

Friday Night Spotlight: Minka Kelly

In anticipation of Season Two of Friday Night Lights, we're taking a close look at each of its primary stars, many of whom you likely don't know all that much about. You should, too. They're very cool!

Friday, we profiled Scott Porter, who has won widespread acclaim for his portrayal of the embattled Jason Street. Today, we'll tell you more about the cute, talented actress who plays his love interest, Minka Kelly.

Minka Kelly was born on June 24, 1980 in Los Angeles, California, and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. As the daughter of Rick Dufay, a member of the band Aerosmith, and Maureen Kelly, a Las Vegas showgirl, there was no doubting Minka Kelly's pedigree in the entertainment business from the start.

From a very young age, her talent was soon discovered. Minka made her TV debut on Nickelodeon's hit TV show Drake and Josh. As she grew older, Kelly learned to further appreciate acting, and planned to pursue it as a career.

Minka attended school in Albuquerque, N.M, where she focused on her career from an early age by enrolling in acting classes. Her goal was to land good roles, but more importantly, to play them correctly. She credits this drive for success and attention to detail as what opened doors for her.

While Minka Kelly trained to become a surgical technician in case her dreams of acting stardom didn't pan out, she decided to move to Los Angeles with her father in order to give it this dream her best shot. There, she was able to land a role in her debut movie Devil's Highway in 2005.

This performance got the attention of talent scouts and got her roles in American Dreams, What I Like About You, The Pumpkin Karver and State's Evidence.

She is best known, of course, for her breakthrough role as head cheerleader and vixen Lyla Garrity on the NBC series Friday Night Lights. She recently finished shooting The Kingdom alongside Jamie Foxx and Chris Cooper.

On a personal note, Minka used to date Fantastic Four star Chris Evans, but they are no longer seeing each other. She was also dating Donald Faison of Scrubs for awhile. Recent reports have linked Kelly to Harry Morton, the young heir to the Morton's Steak House chain and also CEO of the Pink Taco chain.

Her acting talents may be formidable, but it's impossible to talk about Minka Kelly without at least mentioning her amazing good looks - which landed her at #42 on the Maxim magazine's Hot 100 of 2007 list.

Friday Night Lights Goes South

Sprrrrrring Breeeeeeeak!!!!

Well, not really. But a Friday Night Lights film production unit was in Brownsville and popular party spot (and natural wonder) South Padre Island, Texas, last week to shoot scenes for the series, according to news reports.

Cast and crew spent a fews days filming in Cameron County parks on the Island, said assistant county parks director Joe Vega, who took in some of the action.

"We're glad they are going to feature our beautiful beaches on their show, even though (this episode) is supposed to be set in Mexico," he said.

This is for the episode in which Tim Riggins, Lyla Garrity and Jason Street decide to take a road trip south of the border. While South Padre is still in Texas, it's remote and about as close (geographically) to Mexico as one can get.

Austinite John Patterson, locations manager for the series, said his group includes more than 80 people. Three of the show's stars - the three who take the trip - came with the crew: Taylor Kitch, Scott Porter and Minka Kelly.

Texas

"Ninety-five percent of our crew are Texans," said Patterson, a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin, where the show films the majority of its footage. "It's possible we may shoot more sequences here in Texas."

Minka Kelly Wants You to Watch Friday Night Lights

Sure, we're pumped that NBC renewed Friday Night Lights for another year, but there's no guarantee it'll play its junior season unless we get it out of the ratings basement and contending for the division title.

We at Friday Night Lights Insider aren't sure whey more people don't watch it. Filmed in a documentary style, it showcases teen relationships with realistic, dramatic story lines as well as hard-hitting, gridiron action.

And if that's not enough for you, it's got Minka Kelly. See below.

Minka Kelly: Watch FNL!

Yeah. You don't find cheerleaders this hot on Heroes. Well, okay, so you do. But look at this girl! Minka Kelly plays Lyla Garrity, a spoiled cheerleader with a good heart, but who managed to cheat on her star quarterback beau... after he was paralyzed in a game ... with his best friend.

Point being: Between its deliberate pacing, brilliant acting, scandalous drama and hot actors and actresses, this is not a show to miss. Posing in front of a poster of the cast, the lovely Minka Kelly clearly wants you to watch.

Do not let her down. Tell your friends about Friday Night Lights. Today!

Minka Kelly to Star in The Kingdom

Beautiful Minka KellyMinka Kelly of Friday Night Lights (which returns October 5), will also be appearing in the big screen this fall, playing Ms. Ross in The Kingdom.

The film revolves around four FBI agents who go to Saudi Arabia after "a terrorist bomb detonates inside a Western housing compound in Riyadh" and causes an international crisis.

They are given five days "to locate the man behind the bombing," but upon their arrival, are met with much suspicion from Saudi authorities.

Aside from Kelly, the star-studded cast boasts Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx, Jason Bateman (Arrested Development), Chris Cooper, Jennifer Garner (Alias), Jeremy Piven (Entourage), Richard Jenkins and Ali Suliman.

Filming began last year in Phoenix, Ariz., then shifted to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, where the cast and crew remained for one week.

Peter Berg, the co-creator of Friday Night Lights, is directing a script written by Matthew Michael Carnahan and Academy Award nominee Michael Mann.

The Kingdom was scheduled to be released April 20, but was pushed back to September 28 after favorable reactions from test audiences and executives.

Although this is Minka Kelly's first big budget film, the Friday Night Lights actress has appeared in a number of productions.

She made her debut on Cracking Up, and followed that with roles on other shows, such as Drake & Josh, American Dreams and What I Like About You.

Minka Kelly has also worked on several independent films, including the award-winning Devil's Highway and State's Evidence.

On Friday Night Lights, Minka is Lyla Garrity, a cheerleader for the Panthers and the ex-fiancee of former quarterback Jason Street (Scott Porter).
