Friday Night Lights Spoilers, News & Opinion

Here's some Friday Night Lights commentary, spoilers and news courtesy of Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello today in his Q&A section ...

Q: So, as I was watching last week's episode of Friday Night Lights, I was once again reminded that the people who choose the Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award nominations are blind, deaf and dumb! Agreed?

A: Agreed. Friday Night Lights is on fire this season, and it sucks that Globe voters failed to recognize that. In fact, in EW's annual best and worst issue (on sale Friday), Smash's farewell episode is singled out by yours truly as one of the best hours of television all season. It was a close call between that episode and the Jeffrey Reiner-directed episode 8, "New York, New York," which featured my favorite Friday Night Lights scene of all time. It was the one where Eric and Tami came to an agreement that buying that fancy new house would be a terrible mistake. The subtle nuances that Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler brought to what could have easily been a throwaway scene just blew my mind. I've watched it, like, 11 times. And there's a good chance I'll make it a perfect dozen today. It's that good. On the Friday Night Lights spoiler front, Landry and Tyra's looming reunion gets sealed with a sorta-kiss in tonight's episode. And looking ahead to the season finale, a beloved character whose name begins with E or T and is cited somewhere in this answer will be fired from his/her job.

Friday Night Lights Spoilers, News, Etc.

Here are some Friday Night Lights spoilers and news items from E! Online today ...

Q: When do we find out if Friday Night Lights gets picked up for a fourth season?

A: Word from NBC will come after the Peacock-network premiere on January 16. Says Connie Britton about the remainder of season three: "I think we get a little twist with that at the end of the season. The end of the season is kind of the end of the football season as well, that's what we like to do on our show. They made it so compelling. Whether this is the last season or not, some of these students are going to be graduating, they may or may not be on the show next season, so it was important that they do that right, and they really did."

Q: What's coming up on this week's Friday Night Lights?

A: Crazy week of unexpected behavior: Tyra's mom acts like an actual good parent, Coach lies to Tami about some football-related corruption and Tim Riggins (yes, drunk, slutty Tim Riggins!) turns out to be the best boyfriend ever. I would never have guessed he had it in him, but I'm so proud! And did you guys see Taylor as Gambit in the Wolverine trailer? Our little 33 is all growed up!

Friday Night Lights Spoilers: Fast-Forward to the Finale

Here are a couple of interesting Friday Night Lights spoiler items from Michael Ausiello at Entertainment Weekly this morning ...

Q: I have recently become obsessed with Friday Night Lights. Any juicy gossip to share?

A: Get this: By season's end, Dillon, Texas, will open a second high school, upending both the town's storied football program and Coach Taylor's tenure as Panthers coach. Also, the Season 3 finale (airing January 14 on DirecTV – NBC reruns the season starting January 16) will jump ahead five months to the end of the school year, at which point we'll have a good idea who'll be moving away to college and who'll be sticking around for a possible fourth season. Hint: You might want to start saying your good-byes now, 'cause there are a lot of 'em.

Friday Night Lights Spoilers: Tyra, Cash and More!

A little scoop on this week's Friday Night Lights from E! Online ...

Q: Anything good on Friday Night Lights?

A: Tyra Collette finally discovers that Cash (Zach Roerig) has a dark side that involves gambling and mistreating women. Landry, time for another murder to defend your girl! Also, Grandma and Shelby fight viciously, leaving poor Matt in the middle, and someone with an agenda makes Riggins an offer he can't refuse.

Aimee Teegarden Cast on 90210

Looks who's running away from Dillon, Texas, to the home of Dylan Walsh!

Sources tell E! that Aimee Teegarden (Julie Taylor), of the ultra-talented Friday Night Lights cast, has just been cast on the CW's 90210.

The CW says Aimee Teegarden will be playing Rhonda, a West Beverly High student who will cross paths with one of the other characters.

Clearly, Aimee is an integral part of the Friday Night Lights cast, so does her move to 90210 mean Friday Night Lights is again in danger?

According to NBC, Friday Night Lights will not produce more than 13 episodes for the current Season 3, and they have just wrapped production.

Still, this does not mean that Friday Night Lights is canceled.

Friday Night Lights Season Three Hits the Mark

A brief note on Friday Night Lights from TV Guide's Matt Roush in his weekly Q&A today ...

Q: I was just curious if you have any thoughts on the third season of Friday Night Lights. Normally you have lots to say about this fantastic show, but I'm guessing you're waiting until the current third season airs on NBC to weigh in. The November 19 "New York, New York" episode, though, was particularly great in my opinion. Without giving anything away, the awesomeness included: the after-dinner football at the Taylor house, Coach's final decision on the new house followed by Tami's reaction, Tim's enthusiasm for Broadway and Scott Porter's performance on the doorstep. Would you agree Friday Night Lights has regained whatever it may have lost in Season Two?

A: I've made note several times lately how impressed I have been by this third season, but this particular episode blew me away. (Actually, it blew my box of tissues away. I lost it several times during the episode.) The scenes between the Coach and Matt Saracen, resolving his awkward position on the team; the Coach and his wife, confronting a real-estate opportunity that made no economic sense; and especially between Jason Street and Tim Riggins, as these best buds visit the Big Apple (with a pit stop at Gypsy?)... really, it was all so memorable and moving, so entertaining and ennobling.
